United States 2021
Foundation Training
This training welcomes all professional practitioners who wish to integrate body and mind to resolve emotional trauma and relational deficits. We include psychotherapists, psychologists, social workers, pre-licensed interns and students; certified bodyworkers, massage, and body-centered practitioners; addiction counselors; nurses, acupuncturists, allopathic, naturopathic, and holistic doctors; movement and yoga practitioners; and coaches.
Students have told us that they cannot imagine a touch training that does not offer an in-person touch component. And in truth, nor can we, so we have created a training that combines both. In these covid times, the first three modules are online. We discovered that, beyond working in person, touch has a reach that defies time and space. Whether we support our clients to use touch to connect with their own bodies, use the screen to mirror each other’s touch positions, or invite the power of intention to reach out via virtual touch, our need to adapt with therapeutic creativity has opened new avenues.
-
- Modules 1 thru 3 each consist of 2½ days of live-streamed lectures, demos, discussions, and breakout practices. You will receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completing these three online modules.
- Module 4 consists of a 4-day in-person Touch Intensive meeting in Los Angeles. We are hopeful that it will be safe to gather in groups before the end of 2021. Upon completion of this 4th module, you will receive a NATouch Foundation Training Graduate certificate.
- Online exchange practice sessions between each module ― a total of 3 exchange sessions
- A 2-hour Cohort Case Consultation between each module ― a total of 3 consultations
- Course material: recorded video links to all the lectures and demos to review in your own time, a 200-page manual, and all lecture slides
- We will live-stream Modules 1-3 from Los Angeles on a Pacific Time schedule
-
- Introduction and community building
- Overview of the training and orientation to the current module
- Opening lecture
-
- Exploration of the anatomy, physiology, and psychological functions of the body.
- Demonstration of touch skills and self-touch explorations. Because we are now doing more sessions online, we will bring an enhanced focus to self-touch and self-care protocols for clients, as well as guidance for establishing a somatic contemplative practice. This will give you an in-depth interoceptive experience of your own body and help you teach your clients how to work with their bodies.
- Demonstration sessions that are either live, recorded with real-time commentary, or real-time online.
- Breakout exercises and Q&A.
- NOTE: If you can’t attend a lecture at its delivery time, you will receive a link to the recording.
- Exploration of the anatomy, physiology, and psychological functions of the body.
-
- Fifty-minute online exchange sessions with 10-min debrief held after Modules 1, 2, and 3. A total of three exchange sessions, held at a time of your choice, focusing on the material covered in the previous module.
- You can choose your practice partner, or our staff will pair you with a practice partner compatible with your time zone.
- One-page reflection notes of your experience as the therapist and as the client.
- Questions arising from your exchange sessions can be brought to the Cohort Case Consultations.
-
- To clinically anchor theory and practice, Cohort Case Consultations will be held following Modules 1, 2, and 3
- You will receive a Zoom link for these consultations. There is no need to register and they are included in your tuition
- You must attend these three Cohort Case Consults to receive your Online Foundation Training Certificate of Attendance
-
- To be announced as soon as we can safely gather as a group
- Review of all materials with a focus on hands-on practice
-
- Recorded video links to all the lectures and demos to review in your own time
- Manual ― 200 pages
- Lecture slides
For questions about the training
Visit the Curriculum page for a complete overview of the training and learning objectives.
For graduates and current students who wish to further their expertise beyond the Foundation Training, and qualify for the NeuroAffective Touch Practitioner Certification, we offer ongoing Study Groups and Online General Case Consultations. Study Groups may be attended live-streamed or recorded. For confidentiality reasons, recordings of the Case Consultations are not available.
Registration
Registration is a two-step process:
1. A Student Application allows us to know you and make sure that the training will be a good fit for you
2. A tuition payment that secures your place in the training
The process of evaluating your application is contingent on our receiving both your application and tuition payment. We may want a short conversation with you to ensure that our training is a good fit. You will then receive a final email confirmation of your acceptance into the training. If we assess that the training is not a good fit, you will receive a full refund.

Review Video
Students receive a link to the videos of a training module. For ease of viewing, video chapters are titled according to subject: lectures, demonstrations, practice feedback, and Q&A. The video link is active for 3-years from the date of the training.
Missing a Module
Sometimes life gets in the way, so if you cannot attend a training module live or online, you can take it by video. We will send you the breakout exercises and we ask that you send us a short (500 word) reflection paper describing your learning experience.
Lodging
Our Los Angeles training venue is in Brentwood.
The closest hotel within walking distance of the training is The Brentwood Inn.
Students also recommend the Best Western Plus Gateway Hotel Santa Monica.
For other lodging choices, Brentwood and Santa Monica are the closest and best areas. Santa Monica is within walking distance of many restaurants, has a beautiful promenade overlooking the ocean and beach, as well as an outdoor shopping mall with live music and entertainment. See trivago.com.
Lunch
The Los Angeles training location has plenty of outdoor space to relax, eat lunch, and socialize with colleagues. We encourage you to bring your lunch and take advantage of the retreat-like setting. For restaurants nearby visit tripadvisor.com (Brentwood area).
